Akumal

A Brief Travel Guide to Akumal

Akumal is a lovely tiny village in Mexico, nestled between Playa del Carmen and Tulum! This fantastic destination is known for its white-sand beaches, turtle protection program, and abundant marine life, making it a popular destination for sunbathers and scuba divers alike.

Why You Should Visit Akumal

Akumal is excellent for a day trip on a private tour because of its natural beauty and range of activities. Akumal, halfway between Tulum and Playa del Carmen, is known for its beautiful beaches and lagoons. Here are several must-do things in Akumal, ranging from marine turtles to cenotes.

Swim with turtles in the ocean

Akumal is a reef-protected natural sheltering bay. It’s the ideal spot for snorkeling with sea turtles in their native habitat. Before participating in the activity, make sure you book a tour guide (which is required) and read the Akumal Bay Regulations.

Ruins of Tulum

Tulum ruins, located on a bluff overlooking the beach and sea, are Mexico’s most visited archaeological site after Chichen Itza. Admire the technical feats of these well-preserved structures and imagine Mayans living in this lovely setting in the 13th century. Before going for a nice swim in the water, take some stunning shots of this historic monument.

Yal Ku Lagoon

Yal Ku Lagoon in Akumal is a must-see during your vacation. There are walks, statues, and chairs throughout the green landscape, and the calm lagoon waters are safe for inexperienced swimmers. It’s like snorkeling in an aquarium full of brightly colored creatures!

Cenotes are great places to snorkel

Taak Bi Ha, Dos Ojos, and Nicte Ha are just a few of the fantastic cenotes surrounding Akumal. Snorkeling in the crystal blue waters is a once-in-a-lifetime experience, and each cenote offers something different. Some are cave-like, while others are exposed to the sky and surrounded by ferns. Why not go to a few other places?

Traveler’s Tips: Things To Know When Visiting Akumal

Use Bike To Explore The Place

It is obvious that you booked plane tickets through a travel agency to reach Akumal. But what about travelling in the city? Grab a bike and head out to see what the town has to offer! Many of the area’s attractive resorts provide complimentary bikes for you to use while exploring the area. In Akumal, almost everything is accessible by bike, and there are even bike-friendly trails for tourists to follow.

Learn a little Spanish

Although many people speak English, it is wise to be prepared and know a few Spanish phrases as well. The Mayan Riviera is bustling with visitors, but Akumal is still a tiny town, so learning Spanish is preferable (and courteous!).

Bring sunscreen that is reef-safe!

Not only is it the right thing to do to use biodegradable, reef-safe sunscreen, but it’s also required at several of the local attractions, such as Yal-Ku Lagoon. Make sure to utilize it because it is better for your health and the environment.

It’s possible that there’ll be seaweed on the beach

Stacks of seaweed may line the shore at particular periods of the day, depending on the time of year you visit. However, there are always people from the hotels and apartment complexes cleaning up the beach, so it shouldn’t be too much of a problem.
